Photos of a Washington, D.C. area high school by Esther Bubley, taken in 1943.
I see that my most of my bw photos are still uploading in sepia. I've decided that Blogger is the Microsoft Word of posting environments - making "helpful" changes you don't really want.
Update: I've learned how to cancel out the sepia effect. Have to go in to Picasa and edit photos back to bw there. This can only be done in Chrome.

The comment regarding "Street makeup" has elicited several questions, here and elsewhere. It's not that different from today, only the nomenclature has changed.
ReplyDelete"Street makeup" just means a lighter daytime makeup worn away from home, during the daytime when at school (mostly college age or more, in this case, as most young women of younger ages may not have worn more than a little face powder and a light lipstick) or running the day's errands. It's a little less formal than you might have worn for evening events, like dates, proms, more formal dinner evenings, and so on. Its just "daytime makeup" as we know today.
