Regarding that photo of the woman demonstrating the Hotpoint Wringer Washer - are we sure about the date? Appliances like that weren't being made during the War at all, as all the companies which produced things like washing machines, refrigerators, ranges, even vacuum cleaners, irons, radios, etc., were all devoted to producing war materiel well before 1943. Everyone was advised to make whatever they owned already to last as long as possible, and to have what they owned serviced, and/or repaired (if they could get the parts!) because there wouldn't be anything new available until after the War was won.
