Mack Hughes

Mack Hughes lived and worked as a professional photographer in Lexington, Kentucky. Harry Mack Hughes received an A.B. in Journalism in 1939 from the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Delta Sigma Chi, was the football manager, and on the golf team. Many of his photographs were published in local newspapers.

The photos at this set were taken at a college event in 1957 called the "Lanus Carnival," seemingly good clean fun (but a lot of the photos seem to have a salacious edge to them).

[this seems pretty innocent until one sees the pin-up girl calendar images tacked up on the side]

[I'm not seeing much innocence on display here...]

[precisely what "skill" is being celebrated here...?]

Central Kentucky

These are from a collection titled "Central Kentucky Photograph Albums." The photos date from 1905-1920. There is some splendid scenery here - makes me want to visit Kentucky!
